About Feng Hua
Feng Hua Chinese School was founded in 1998. It is a non-political, non-religious, not-for-profit community language school. The school teaches Mandarin, builds listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and uses simplified characters and Hanyu Pinyin. It also supports cultural and educational exchange between Australia and China, and Australia’s multicultural policy.
As a member of the NSW Federation of Community Language Schools, Feng Hua is funded through the NSW Department of Education Community Languages Program.
Structured Chinese courses help students gain a foundation in listening, speaking, reading, and writing, and introduce Chinese culture. The school aims to develop capable bilingual students who can contribute to cultural, educational, and community exchange.
Campuses
Feng Hua teaches at Eastwood, Epping, Chatswood, Denistone, Kent Road, and Roseville, and runs Feng Hua Online for students who cannot attend in person. Courses run from Kindergarten to Year 10 (HSC Chinese preparation) for a range of ages and language levels.
Teachers
Our teachers are mostly graduates of teacher-training colleges and universities in mainland China. They bring classroom experience and have completed NSW Department of Education language-teaching training.
Textbooks
The school uses these Chinese textbooks:
- Chinese, written by Dr Liping Ma for students from Chinese-speaking families. Students learn characters before Pinyin, and read widely while they learn to write. Lessons and readings introduce traditional stories and culture, with online work and a Feng Hua classroom workbook.
- Yang Yang Chinese, written by language specialists in China and overseas. The lessons are short and varied, with plenty of practice for listening, speaking, reading, and writing, plus customs and cultural knowledge. Print and online resources support the books.
